St. Serra's Extended Care Program

The program is an extension of the regular school day. Exceptional child care is provided before and after school for the families whose children are enrolled in Preschool or Grades TK-8. The programs emphasize social and spiritual growth, life skills, arts, crafts and physical activities. Snacks are also provided to students enrolled in Extended Care after school.

Extended Care registration for the 2023-2024 school year will open after July 1, 2023.

Please make sure you are signing up for the correct year. If you are enrolled for the 2023-24 school year, you will be emailed when Extended Care registration opens for that year.

Preschool Extended Care

 
The Preschool Extended Care Program is for 3- and 4- year-olds enrolled in a morning program at the Preschool who would like a longer school day. A variety of activities designed to enhance the preschool curriculum are offered, including sensory activities, arts and crafts, science, dramatic play, story time, indoor and outdoor play time. TK-8 Extended Care

 
St. Junipero Serra Catholic School's TK - 8 Extended Care program provides before-school and after-school child care, and is available to all St. Serra students currently enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten through Grade 8. Our qualified staff is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children. The program includes staff-monitored homework time, healthy snacks, crafts, indoor and outdoor games and sports activities. See additional information below.
 

Preschool Extended Care Additional Information

The Preschool Extended Care Program provides before-school and after-school child care to all currently enrolled preschool students. Our qualified staff is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children. The program includes lunch and snack times, crafts, indoor and outdoor play time, and small group activities.
 
The Preschool Extended Care Program supplements the preschool programs and supports St. Serra's families by providing high-quality child care before and after preschool in a safe and nurturing environment. The Preschool Extended Care Program is viewed as a natural extension of the preschool’s daily program. As such, the program is closed when the school is closed, including holidays, Christmas and Easter break, and summer vacation.
 
The Preschool Extended Care Program is conducted in the Preschool classrooms and playground area. The preschool children do not interact with students in the TK-8 extended care program. Parents must sign their preschool child out of the Preschool Extended Care Program upon departure each day.

There are three rate plans available:

HOURLY RATE: $12.00 per hour, per student

There is an annual registration fee of $55.00 per child. The registration fee will be deducted upon your completion of the registration form in FACTS. The hourly rate is charged in quarter-hour increments with a minimum charge of one half-hour. You will receive a billing email at the beginning of each month from FACTS for the previous month’s usage. The amount due will be automatically deducted from your bank account on file on the due date.

EMERGENCY DROP-IN RATE: $21.00 per hour, per student

The drop-in rate is charged in quarter-hour increments, with a minimum charge of one half-hour. Recommended for occasional and emergency drop-in usage. No annual registration fee is required if only using the drop-in option. You will receive a billing email at the beginning of each month from FACTS for the previous month’s usage. The amount due will automatically be deducted from your bank account on file on the due date. 

FLAT RATE (UNLIMITED PROGRAM USAGE)

There is an annual registration fee of $55.00 per child. The registration fee will be deducted upon your completion of the registration form in FACTS. 

The following fees may be paid as a one-time payment (due in September), as a semi-annual payment (due in September and January) or as nine (9) monthly payments starting in September and continuing every month through May. Payments are deducted via FACTS on the 20th of each month.

Annual Rates (per child):

2-Day Program (Tues/Thurs): $3,049.20 (9 monthly payments = $338.80/month)
3-Day Program (Mon/Wed/Fri): $4,237.20 (9 monthly payments = $470.80/month)
5-Day Program (Mon-Fri): $6,157.80 (9 monthly payments = $684.20/month)

*For students who are registered for the Flat Rate Program after September 20, the program amount will be subject to a recalculation based on the remaining school days.

*Monthly payments do not equate to individual monthly usage. The Flat Rate fees have been prorated for the entire school year, including minimum and non-operational days and are paid in equal, monthly installments, taking into consideration that there are periodic holidays, in-service days and vacations. Therefore, there will be no reduction of fees for the months where holidays, in-service days and vacations occur.

Before school: 6:30 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.
After school: 11:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Extended Care is offered Monday through Friday. Students must be enrolled in preschool on the days that they would go to Extended Care.

Children bring their own lunch, as well as an additional snack, to Preschool Extended Care.

TK-8 Extended Care Additional Information

Public and private schools who sponsor and staff before-school and after-school programs for school-age children are exempt from licensure. This exemption applies when all of the children are enrolled in the school.

St. Serra's Extended Care Program is viewed as a natural extension of the school’s daily program. As such, the program is closed when the school is closed, including holidays, Christmas and Easter break, and summer vacation.

Please note that students may be no younger than 4 years and 8-months-old to participate in the TK-8 Extended Care program.

The Extended Care Program is self-supporting and thus fees will be charged in addition to educational cost.

There are three rate plans available:

HOURLY RATE: $9.50 per hour, per student

There is an annual registration fee of $55.00 per child. The registration fee will be deducted upon your completion of the registration form in FACTS. The hourly rate is charged in quarter-hour increments with a minimum charge of one half-hour. You will receive a billing email at the beginning of each month from FACTS for the previous month’s usage. The amount due will be automatically deducted from your bank account on file on the due date.

DROP-IN RATE: $19.00 per hour, per student

The drop-in rate is charged in quarter-hour increments with a minimum charge of one half-hour. Recommended for occasional and emergency drop-in usage. No annual registration fee is required if only using the drop-in option. You will receive a billing email at the beginning of each month from FACTS for the previous month’s usage. The amount due will automatically be deducted from your bank account on file on the due date.

1 Student: $3,286.80 (9 monthly payments = $365.20/month)
2 Students: $4,593.60 (9 monthly payments = $510.40/month)
3 Students: $5,725.50 (9 monthly payments = $636.17/month)
4 Students: $6,454.80 (9 monthly payments = $717.20/month)

The Flat Rate Plan will be most cost-effective for families who have:
  • One student attending Extended Care over 2 hours per day
  • Two or three students attending Extended Care over 1 ½ hours per day
  • Four students attending Extended care over 1 hour per day

Registered families are allowed to change their rate plan one time throughout the year. Any requests for a rate change must be made and submitted before March 31 of the current school year. The form can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Rosie Chavez at rchavez@serraschool.org.

  • To provide an extended care program in a Christian environment.
  • To create a family bond between children of different age, grade and cultural backgrounds.
  • To provide quiet time for the completion of homework assignments. Extended Care staff will assist students as needed with their homework.
  • To offer a variety of activities that enhances the school’s curriculum.
The TK-8 Extended Care Program hours are as follows:
6:30 a.m. until school begins, and from dismissal to 6:00 p.m.

Before school:

6:30 to 7:10 a.m........ Supervised indoor quiet activities
 

After school:

2:00 to 2:30 p.m........ Check-In/Attendance (Grades TK-2)

2:30 to 2:45 p.m........ Snack (Grades TK-2)

2:45 to 3:15 p.m........ Check-In/Attendance (Grades 3-8)

3:30 to 3:45 p.m........ Snack (Grades 3-8) and homework/reading

4:00 to 5:15 p.m........ Outside/Indoor play

5:15 to 6:00 p.m........ Indoor activities, games, clean-up, snack and dismissal

The TK-8 Extended Care Program provides nutritious snacks for Grades TK-2 at 2:30 p.m., and for Grades 3-8 at 3:30 p.m. A smaller snack is offered for students still present at 5:15 p.m. All snacks are peanut-free and tree nut-free.

In the event of an emergency, all possible measures will be taken to contact the parents first.

If the parents are contacted, we will follow their plan of action. If we are unable to contact the parents, we will call persons listed on the emergency card.

If the emergency is life-threatening, we will make arrangements immediately and then will contact the parents.

It is extremely important to notify the Extended Care Program of any changes in phone number, employment, etc.

A early drop-off/late pick-up fee of $20.00 per child for each 15 minute increment or fraction of 15 minutes will be charged if the staff is kept past 6:00 p.m. or if a child is dropped off prior to 6:30 a.m. If this does occur, a call will be made to the parents. If there is no response, a call will be made to persons listed on the information form.

St. Serra's Extended Care Program is an extension of the school and follows the school’s discipline policy. Registration of your child or children in the Extended Care Program is equivalent to a commitment on the parents and students.

1st: Verbal warning to child
2nd: Verbal warning to child; parents and Principal notified
3rd: Conference with Principal and Extended Care Director
4th: May require dismissal from the program
