If you own stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have increased in value, donating them to St. Serra can be more tax-efficient than giving cash. If you itemize, you may receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the shares held for more than one year, and bypass capital gains taxes you would have incurred if you sold the position.
