Safe Environment Volunteer Requirements

Much of the success of St. Junipero Serra Catholic School and its programs are dependent upon the involvement of our parents. Thank you for being willing to give your time and share your talents to enrich our students’ educational experience.
Per diocesan requirements, volunteers are required to be fingerprinted and must complete the online Safe Environment Training, “A Safe Haven – It’s Up to You”. These requirements must be met prior to any volunteering for all on or off-campus activities or events that involve being in the presence of St. Serra students. Off-campus events or activities include, but are not limited to, school sporting events, field trips and any school sanctioned activity for clubs and groups. Please note that Fingerprinting is a one-time requirement, whereas the online Safe Environment Training must be renewed every 3 years in order to remain on the approved volunteer list.

COVID-19 Volunteer Requirements

In order to be in compliance with the State Public Health Officer Order of August 11, all staff/volunteers who are on-site at a school campus by October 15 must either: 
  • show proof of vaccination or 
  • provide a negative COVID test. 

Beginning the week of October 11, 2021, unvaccinated volunteers, or volunteers who choose not to submit proof of vaccination, must test negative for COVID within 72 hours prior to a volunteer activity (e.g., chaperoning a field trip) and provide the negative test results to the school. 

Unvaccinated, regularly scheduled volunteers (e.g., classroom helpers, coaches, etc.) who have not submitted proof of vaccination must submit negative COVID test results weekly.  

Additional Requirements for Preschool Volunteers

In addition to the Fingerprinting and Safe Environment Training, St. Serra Preschool volunteers must also provide the following per the State of California:
  1. A completed Immunization Form showing proof of immunity to pertussis, measles (rubeola), and influenza, along with a copy of these immunization records. Click here to access the immunization form.
  2. Evidence of a negative TB test done within the past year. TB test results must show the volunteer’s name, the date the TB test was given, the date the TB test was read, a negative result, and the health care provider’s name, address, and phone number.
  3. A “Letter of Good Health” written, signed and dated by the volunteer, stating you are in good health and able to volunteer in the preschool. A doctor’s signature is not required for this letter.
