Fifth Grade Curriculum

Curriculum Overview

Instruction in 5th grade is offered using a departmentalized approach. Fifth grade students have a blocked, waterfall schedule that includes eight periods of daily instruction.

  • McGraw Hill Reading Wonders ELA/Literacy program aligned to the Common Core ELA Standards
    • Encompasses Vocabulary, Grammar, Spelling, Composition, and Reading Comprehension through fictional, non-fictional, informational text and poetry
    • Exposure to multiple literary skills and genres
  • English Composition featuring the Jane Schaffer Approach to Expository Writing
  • Literacy Strategies
  • Vocabulary integrated with Literature and Spelling
  • Daily Skill Reinforcement with Simple Solutions English Grammar Common Core
