Can you name all the parts of the tooth?

| Parts of the Tooth |
| Crown- The visible part of the tooth above the gums. |
| Dentin- The hard yellow layer that surrounds the pulp. |
| Enamel- The tough, shiny, white outer surface of the crown. |
| Gums- The soft pink tissue surrounding the tooth's root. |
| Nerves- The inside of the tooth that send messages to the brain about what your tooth is feeling like hot, cold, or pain. |
| Pulp- The soft center of the tooth. |
| Root- The part of the tooth that holds it in the jawbone. |

| These are called your primary teeth. There are 20 of them in all. By age 3 you should have 20 teeth. But these teeth don't stay long. When your permanent teeth are ready to come in, they push your baby teeth out! | Most children start getting their permanent or adult teeth at the age when they start school. By the time they are twenty, they should have all of their permanent or adult teeth.There are 32 permanent teeth. | ||
| Incisors - The incisors are the
teeth in the very front. They're the sharpest teeth, built to cut food and shaped to
shovel the food inward. Canines - The canine teeth are in the corners of your mouth. Because they're meant for grasping and tearing food, they have very long roots. Premolars - Premolars are located just behind your canine teeth.They are smaller than your molars and they have two lumps on the surface called cusps. They help crush your food.. |

| Molars - The molars are the last teeth towards the back of your mouth. Molars are much bigger than the Premolars and have three to five cusps. Their job is to chew and grind the food into smaller pieces. | |||
What can you do to take care of your teeth?
Eat healthy snacks.
Have regular dental checkups.
Brush and floss everyday.
Wear a mouth guard during sports.
