President Herbert Hoover
By: Nicollette Snyder
In 1928 President Herbert Hoover became the Republican Presidential nominee. In his speech he said many important things. The one that stood out was the saying, “We in America today are nearer to the final triumph over poverty than ever before in the history of any land.” Shortly after his speech the stock market crashed and the Nation spiraled downward into depression. After this happened President Hoover gave another speech saying that he would cut taxes and expand public works spending. Not shortly after that speech in 1947 President Truman appointed Hoover to a commission, which elected him chairman, to reorganize the Executive Departments. In 1929 President Herbert Hoover was elected.
