President Harry S. Truman

President Truman was an important leader of our nation. He was part of the Manhattan Project, he strongly supported the creation of the United Nations, he supported the Truman Doctrine and the Marshal plan, signed the National Security Act of 1947, recognized Israel, and he aided the Berlin Airlift. The 1948 presidential election was well remembered because of Truman’s stunning com-from-behind victory. He was expected to lose so much, that the Chicago Tribune ran an incorrect headline saying that he had lost, when really he hadn’t. One of his famous quote’s was:

"If you can't stand the heat, you better get out of the kitchen." -Truman
