President William Taft
President William Taft was our twenty-seventh president of the United States. He was born on September 15, 1857, and became the son of a distinguished judge. In 1891, at the age of 34, Taft was appointed a Federal circuit judge. This made him happy because Taft preferred law much more than politics. He was sent by President McKinley to the Philippines in 1900, as chief civil administrator. In 1907 President Roosevelt decided that Taft should be his successor. The next year, 1908, The Republican Convention nominated him to be President Roosevelt's successor. By 1909, Taft started his reign as president. While being president, 1909 – 1911, Taft pushed a trade agreement with Canada through Congress. In the year 1912, the republicans re-nominated Taft to be their president. Taft ended his reign as president in the year 1913. Taft served as Professor of Law at Yale, 1920 – 1930s, until he was made Chief Justice of the United States by President Harding. Awhile after being made Chief Justice of the United States William Taft died, the year 1930.
