Ulysses S. Grant
The 18th President

    Ulysses S. Grant was the 18th of 42 (and counting) presidents. Ulysses was born on April 27, 1822 and died on July 23, 1885. Grant was elected president in the year 1869. His political career ended in 1877. He was elected for two terms, and his second term began in 1872. Ulysses S. Grant was an important figure as President of the United States because he helped end slavery in the United States. After the Civil War, and after Ulysses S. Grant issued the “Force Acts”, all the slaves, Black, White or Asian, were freed.
