President Benjamin Harrison

“Lincoln had faith in time, and time has justified his faith.”
Benjamin Harrison is the 23rd president. He granted pensions to disabled Union veterans, gave allowances to children, dependent parents, and widows of veterans which increased the annual pensions from $81 million to $135 million, which is good for those who received the money but bad because it raised the taxes. He proposed that Hawaii should be a state and sent a signed treaty to the U.S Senate. Ben signed the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1890 which didn’t allow business associations that impeded fair trade. He also authorized the coining of silver currency with the Sherman Silver Purchase Act, which raised taxes even more because it caused the government to buy more silver thinking that it would help silver miners.
