President James Knox Polk

James Knox Polk was the 11th president of the United States of America from 1845 to 1849. James was born on November 2, 1795 in North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina. He was married to Sarah Childless Polk. He is an important president because he bought some of Mexico, which is now a part of Texas, New Mexico and California. He treated Texas like a state even before he made it a part of his country. He bought Texas for two million dollars. He also made a treaty with Great Britain in 1846. He was a great American and a great citizen. On June 15, 1849 he passed away in Nashville, Tennessee.
