Millard Fillmore

President Millard Fillmore was important in history because he signed the Compromise of 1850, which helped protect peace for almost eleven years. During this time the North gained power that allowed it beat the south in the civil war. He also approved an expedition to Japan, which years later ended in a commercial treaty between them and the United States. He was a bright man and skilled in politics.
