St. Peter
by Briana O'Hern

-
Early life
-
He was a native of Bethsaida.
-
He was introduced to Jesus by his brother, Andrew.
- Jesus told
them to let down their nets.
-
They answered him,
"We have been fishing all night and have caught no fish. We will do it
anyway, though."
-
It is said that he caught so much fish the
nets began to break.
- He fell down
before the fee of Jesus.
-
Jesus answered him, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will be catching men."
-
Peter became his greatest disciple
-
Jesus gave peter a new name: Cephas, or the rock.
- He was a fisherman like his brother, Andrew.
-
What virtues he models
-
He models loyalty,
because he stayed with Jesus until he was crucified.
-
He models trust,
because he believed Jesus when he rose from the dead.
-
He models faith,
because
he didn't just follow Jesus, he believed what he said.
-
His importance to our Church
- He was the
first pope and the founder of the see of Rome.
- He was
the head of the disciples, and is recognized as the Prince of the Apostles.
- He was with Jesus at the Transfiguration and the raising of Jairus' daughter.
- He helped organize the Last Supper.
-
He had a very important role during the Passion of Jesus Christ.
- He was very faithful to Jesus, and he was
crucified upside down because he declared himself unworthy to die in the same manner as the Lord.
