St. Peter
BY: Talia Longo

- His life
- He was a
native of Bethsaida, and he worked as a
fisherman on Lake
Genesareth.
- He was the
first apostle to speak to the crowds that had gathered before them after
the Holy Spirit was blessed upon them.
- He was also
the first apostle to perform a miracle in the name of the Lord.
- The gospel of
Luke recounted the story that Peter caught such a large group of fish
that he fell down before the feet of Jesus and was told by the Lord,
"Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men".
- Peter was one
of the most important apostles, and he was trusted by Jesus. Jesus
thought of him as his favored apostle and he looked upon him as his
brother
- He denied knowing Christ three times, and the rooster crowed
three times.
- Peter went to pray at a mountain top with Jesus, Peter, and James.
While they were there, Jesus became radiant and white. He began
conversing with Moses and Elijah. When he came back down and returned to
normal color, he made the witnesses swear to keep this event secret.
- What virtues he
models
- He modeled
the virtue of companionship, by staying by God, even when he
didn't have any followers.
- He also
modeled the virtue of bravery because he entered a temple with out
Jesus so that he could spread the good news.
- He showed being
trustful because Jesus could trust him with secret event, like the
Transfiguration.
- He also models
the virtue of courage because he stayed faithful after Jesus
died and he preached the good word. Even though being faithful eventually
got hi killed, he never stopped believing.
- Peter was also
very loyal to Jesus, and kept secret events a secret. He also did as
Jesus told him to, and never asked questions when he was asked to do something
for Jesus.
- His importance to
our Church
- He was our
first pope
- He spread the
word of God with the powers of the holy spirit.
- He was given
special duties because he was Jesus' most trusted companion.
- He gave an example
for many Christians, and showed them how to act reverently and respectfully
towards Jesus.
- He also gave us
a strong base to build our church. He is our church’s rock and he did
just as Jesus planed.
