What was the Renaissance?

    The word renaissance mean “rebirth” in French. The period is characterized y scholars, artist, and scientist building on classic Greek and Roman ideas to make new advancements in science and the arts. With the inventions of the printing press and reopening trade routes between China and Europe, the world experienced economic, intellectual and cultural growth. Also, the emphasis on people as individuals was a new concept. The renaissance was the cultural movement in Italy.

When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance occurred from the 1300s through 1600s in Florence, Italy. It is still unclear why the Renaissance began in Italy, and why it began when it did. Accordingly, several theories have been put forward to explain its origins. Beginning in Italy, and spreading to all of Europe by the 16th century, its influence was felt in literature, philosophy, art, politics, science, religon, and other aspects of intellectual enquiry.

Influential People

 

Leonardo da Vinci was the best artist in Italy during that time. He painted the Mona Lisa which people still don't know if she is smiling or frowning. He was also a master engineer. Also Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Artists such as Albrecht  Dürer strove to portray the human form realistically, developing techniques to render perspective and light more naturally.

Art and Architecture

 

Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel which I think was his best work of art. He was a man born with a gift of drawling. If he found one little mistake in his work he would call the painting ruined. In paintings of the renaissance they were painted with life like flawless design.

Music

The people in the renaissance had many styles of music. They  had secular and sacred types of music. Secular music was music that did not religion based lyrics. Secular music was the most popular type of music. Sacred music was Christian based. Most of the religious works would sing this music.

Literature

William Shakespeare was the most famous poet and play writer of that time.  He wrote over 30 tragedies, comities, histories. His most famous work was Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet he describes of 2 lovers that have a forbidden love. The 2 families have a brutal disputed but Romeo and Juliet are lovers.

Math and Science

Scholars during the renaissance era found new mathematic techniques. They found about the square root of number. They also found the positive and negative number that made a large platter of numbers to choose from. They found out that the earth revolved around the sun.

How the Renaissance affects us.

The Renaissance affects us because they invented paper and the movable type. with paper it made printed much easier. Many people used paper instead of hide because it was much cheaper and easier to copy things on it. They also invented the movable type that made printing easier because they can rearrange letters to make a print.
