The Renaissance means "rebirth" and refers to the period that followed Europe's Middle Ages.
When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance began in Florence, Italy between 1450-1600.
The most influential people during the Renaissance were the teachers, architects, scholars, artists, writers, astronomers, and the musicians. They were the influential people because these were the people who started the origin of humanism, the new way of seeing the world.
Michelangelo (1475-1564) was an Italian Renaissance painter, engineer, sculptor, architect, and poet. He was born in Florence, but also lived and worked in Bologna and Rome. Michelangelo created some of the most famous works of art in world history. As an architect, Michelangelo designed many famous sites such as the Capitoline Square, The Laurentian Library, and the Medici Chapel. I chose Michelangelo because created and represented many ideas of the Renaissance in many ways and desires.
Giovanni Palestrina (1525-1594) was one of the Renaissance's most important composers. He was born in Palestrina, Italy, but worked and lived in Rome, Italy. He wrote mostly of religious work, such as madrigals, motets, and numerous masses. He represented a big influence on the development of the Roman Catholic Church, and his work can be seen as a summation of Renaissance polyphony. One of his works was the Missa Papae Marcelli. I chose Giovanni Palestrina because he displayed and showed a lot of effort in all of his works.
Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) was an Italian poet and writer from Florence. Dante was born and lived in Italy. He greatest work was the Divine Comedy. It describes an imaginary journey he took in the afterlife. Dante chose to write in Italian which was the common language of the people. By using Italian, Dante showed that he considered the people's language to be as good as Latin. I chose Dante Alighieri because he accomplished many of his goals and was a great Italian poet.
Galileo Galilee (1564-1642) was an Italian mathematician and scientist who invented the telescope, and he verified the fact that four moons revolve around Jupiter. Galileo was born and lived in Italy. Sometimes he was even called "the father of science." I picked Galileo Galilee because he invented many things, worked hard to verify and prove facts, and accomplished many of his goals.
How the Renaissance affects us.
The Renaissance affected people today because if it weren't for the people who had talented inventions, we wouldn't be the same people we are today. The Renaissance affected us by their discoveries because if Galileo didn’t invent the telescope, we wouldn’t be able to see many planets or stars as we can today in normal life. Many other inventions include the clocks, eyeglasses and spectacles, the printing press, microscope, submarine, and the match.
