The Renaissance means "rebirth" and is the period that followed Europe's Middle ages.

When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance began in Florence, Italy in the 1300's.
The most influential people of the Renaissance were travelers because they reopened the Silk Road and increased trade with other countries.

Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, writer, sculptor, scientist, mathematician, architect, musician, inventor, engineer, and anatomist. He was born in 1452 and died in 1519. He lived in Vinci, Italy and then Rome. I chose Leonardo because he was a great, talented man who accomplished amazing things.
Claudio Monteverdi was a singer, viol player, and composer. He was born in Cremona in 1567 and died in 1643 in Venice. I chose him because he was a talented and creative man who had success in life.
Literature
Dante Alighieri was an Italian politician and poet. Dante was the first to
write in Italian- a more common language of the time. I chose Dante because he
thought of the people when writing his books.
Georg Purbach was an astronomer and mathematician. He invented the regula( the geometric square), and a crater on the moon is named after him. I chose Georg Purbach because a person who created and has something named after him is very interesting to me. I think is is a very fascinating person to learn about.
How the Renaissance affects us.
The Renaissance provided many new ways of technology and new teachings that we now know today. The books provided the history of our ancestors. William Shakespeare and Dante Alighieri are two great writers who inspired us to write in a totally different way. Many scientists and artists inspired us as well. They gave us different techniques and many new discoveries.
