The word Renaissance means "rebirth," and that is exactly what happened to Europe. Europe was reborn. It is characterized by scholars, artists and scientists building on classical Greek and Roman ideas to make new advances in science and the arts. With the invention of the printing press and reopening trade routes between China and Europe, world experienced economic, intellectual and cultural growth. Also, the emphasis on people as individuals was a new concept.
When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance occurred in Florence Italy and spread through out Europe. The Renaissance period began in the late Middle Ages and lasted from the 14th through out the 17th century. It encouraged the learning of classical sources, the rise of courtly and papal patronage, the development the revival of learning based on classical sources, the rise of courtly and papal patronage, the development of perspective in painting, and advancements in science.
Marco Polo: Marco Polo was one of the most famous explorers that every lived. Polo traveled all the way from Venice, Italy to China on the Silk Rode. There, he met Kublai Khan who made Marco Polo travel all over china where he learned all about china. When Marco returned home, he told all about his travels. Soon more murchants and travelers set out for Asia.

Dante Alighieri: Dante Alighieri was born in 1265, between May 14 and June 13. As and infant, Dante was originally christened 'Durante' in Florence's Baptistery, and the name Dante could be a shortened version of that name. Dante was one of the first people to write in Italian and not Latin.

There where many big advancements in math and science during the Renaissance.
Math: Sculleries started to use some of the math mathematical seines we use today. Some of these seines were positive and negative numbers.
Science: During the Renaissance, the rediscovery of ancient scientific texts was accelerated after the Fall of Constantinople
