The Renaissance
means "rebirth" in French. It was the rebirth of Greek and Roman ideas. This is
the period that followed Europe's Middle Age. It is characterized by scholars,
artists, and scientists building on classical Greek and Roman ideas to make new
advances in science and the arts. With the invention of the printing press and
reopening
trade routes between China and Europe, the world experienced economic,
intellectual and cultural growth. Also the emphasis on people as individuals was
a new concept.
When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance began in Florence, Italy and spread throughout Europe during the 1300s through the 1600s. It occurred first in Europe, where its ideas stated in Florence after finding nd understanding more Greek and Roman culture.
The most influential people during the Renaissance are sailors and merchants because the economy improved from them. The sailors and merchants brought and sold traded goods for the increasing demand of new things.
Michelangelo di Buonarroti Simoni lived from 1475-1564 in Florence, Rome, and Bologna. Michelangelo’s contributions to Renaissance his many works of art in the Sistine Chapel and designing the dome in Saint Peter’s Basilica. I chose him because his creations are very beautiful.
Giovanni Palestrina lived from 1525-1594 in Palestrina and Rome. He is known for his 104 masses, 68 offertories, over 300 motets, 72 hymns, 35 magnificants, and many more. His most known masterpiece is Missa Papae Marcelli. I chose him because he was one of the most important composers at the time.
In literature, William Shakespeare is well known for his poetry and especially his plays. He wrote over 30 comedies, tragedies, and histories. I chose him because I have read and heard of many of his plays like Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet. He was born in 1564-1616 and lived in England. I chose William because he is very famous and well known.
Leonardo da Vinci lived from 1452-1519 in Florence and France. In science he drew very accurate sketches of the human anatomy. I chose Leonardo because he contributed to a lot of things we use today.
How the Renaissance affects us.
We gained many new advances in many fields like the printing press, flying machines, and and an accurate sketch of the human body. We have now more ways of curing diseases thanks to Leonardo da Vinci for now knowing where parts in your body are. The first printing press also influenced people learning how to read. When the first book the Bible came out a want to learn more led to universities.
