The word Renaissance is French for rebirth. It perfectly described intellectual and economic changes that happened. It is characterized by scholars, artists, and scientists building on classical Greek and Roman ideas to make new advances in science and the arts.
When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The Renaissance occurred during through the 1300s and 1600s. The Renaissance occurred in Florence, Italy and spread throughout Europe.
The most influential people were the middle class people, because they had more than enough money for food, they had time to spend on entertainment and education, and they had big luxurious houses. They also knew how to read which was good for understanding a contracts and so they could get good jobs.
Michelangelo Buonarroti sculptured and painted. He was very influential. He was considered to be one of the most inspired people of the Renaissance. He didn’t just paint and sculpt, he also was an engineer and a poet. I chose Michelangelo because he was very influential to the people of his time.
Giovanni Pierluigi was an Italian composer. He was the most famous Roman School representative in the 16th century. He was married and had three children. He taught music at the Seminario Romano. In the 1560s and 1570s his fame and influences increased tremendously. I chose Giovanni Pierluigi because he was a famous Italian composer and i have heard of him before.

William Shakespeare was an English Poet. He was a great writer. He wrote many plays, sonnets, and poems. He wrote Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. He is very famous and was a role model. I chose William Shakespeare because he is still very famous. His famous plays still are acted. He became famous because he showed emotion.
Nicolaus Copernicus discovered that the world revolved around the sun. Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer and a mathematician. Before him, people thought that the sun revolved around Earth. He discovered his theory when he was about 70 years old. When his father died he was raised by his maternal uncle. He also practiced music, wrote a treatise on monetary reform, and turned his attention to a subject in which he had long been interested in, astronomy. I chose Nicolaus Copernicus because he made a great discovery.

How the Renaissance affects us.
In the beginning of the Renaissance time period, clocks began to develop. In 1280, eye glasses were invented. Another invention made in this time period was flushing a toilet. Now everyone flushes the toilet. Without some of these inventions it would be more difficult to do things. They discovered matches, so they would not have to rub sticks together anymore. In the 16th century the Italians spread to Europe. This spread influenced literature, philosophy, art, politics, science, religion, and many other things. They invented the printing press and reopening trade routes between China and Europe. The Renaissance is important to us today because they made many great inventions. If they did not invent many of these things people would not have the technology we have today. The Renaissance was the start of the modern age.
