What was the Renaissance?

The word is French for rebirth.

Perfectly describes the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe. It is characterized by scholars, artists and scientists building on classical Greek and Roman ideas to make new advances in science and the arts. With the invention of the printing press and reopening trade routes between China and Europe, the world experienced economic, intellectual and cultural growth. Also, the emphasis on people as individuals was a new concept.

When and where did the Renaissance begin?

It was during the 1300s through the 1600s that the Renaissance occurred. It  occurred in Florence Italy and spread through out Europe during the 1300s through the 1600s.

Influential People

Influential people are composers, artists, writers, and poem writers. They all are because we wouldn't have most of the stuff today if it wasn't for these people.

Art and Architecture

William Shakespeare- English Poet and a writer, one of the best English writers in the world. People think that he did most of his work from 1586 and 1612. He also made plays and poems. Some of the best plays were Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. Some of his best poems were, “Venus and Adonis, the Rape of Licrece, and A Lover’s Complaint.”

Music

Giovanni Palestrina- He was a Italian composer but Palestrina left hundreds of compositions, including 104 masses, 68 offertories, more than 300 motets, at least 72 hymns, 35 magnicats , 11 litanies, 4 or 5 sets of lamentations etc.

Literature

Mikolaj Rej- He was a poet writer and wrote many poems. He was a teacher and was very smart. He also wrote a book called,"A Short Debate between Three Persons; a Nobleman, a Commune head and a Priest."

Math and Science

Nicolaus Copernicus- discovered that the earth revolves around the sun. In 1497 Copernicus' uncle was ordained Bishop of Warmia, and Copernicus was named a canon at Frombork Cathedral. He also went to a college about the earth and astronomy.

How the Renaissance affects us.

In the Renaissance there were clocks being made and being developed, there was a financial growth, and it started to grow stronger in art, social life, and education. They also invented and flushing toilet. The decisions made changed our lives today and helped us. In the Renaissance they taught us new things and if it wasn’t for it we wouldn’t have stuff we have today and our education wouldn’t be as strong. It also was the start of a new civilization.
