The word renaissance means “rebirth.” It was found in the Middle Ages. It perfectly describes the intellectual and economic changes that occurred in Europe from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries.
When and where did the Renaissance begin?
The renaissance began in Florence, Italy. It spread throughout Europe during the 1300's.
Scholars, artists, and builders were the most influential people during the renaissance. Artists drew beautiful sculptures, builders created things on how to make sails more accurate and on how to build domes for Cathedrals.
Leonardo Da Vinci, was born in Vinci, a small little town near Florence, on April 15, 1452. Leonardo drew lots of pictures and invented the wing that allowed people to fly. I choose this person because my Mom’s first name was Mona Lisa Cahill and that is a picture that Leonardo drew. The art became more realistic and we started to figure out about the human body.
King Henry wrote Green sleeves, the most famous piece of Renaissance. In the 1300's the most popular music was French and Secular. Although secular music gradually spread all over Europe, it flowered in Italy. One well-known Musician was Claudio Monteverdi. He composed madrigals and operas such as Orfeo.
In Literature, William Shakespeare wrote unbelievable and well-known plays. He wrote more than 30 comedies, tragedies and histories. William was born from 1564 to 1616. William is also responsible for more than 2,000 English words. His plays were really known because they were really about true life. I choose William Shakespeare because he is a unbelievable play writer.
People during the Renaissance period in math created square root, addition, and subtraction. In science they learned about the sun, the planets and the stars. Beginning in the 15th century, Galileo created the telescope in which we still use it today.
