Andrew Johnson

Andrew Johnson was the seventeenth president of the United States. The only term he served was due to the assassination of President Lincoln. During his long and successful life, Johnson's political duties included being an alderman, mayor of Greenville, Tennessee, state senator, state representative and, congressman. More notable offices were Governor of Tennessee (1853-1857) and Military Governor of Tennessee. President Lincoln appointed the position of Military Governor to Johnson in 1862. Johnson also served as Vice President to President Lincoln. He was tried and impeached in 1868, but was required to finish his presidential term. President Johnson is remembered for being a great defender of the Constitution as well as, being the only president to be impeached by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
