John Adams

By: Phillip Gayoso

John Adams was the 1st Vice President and 2nd President of the United States. He was Vice President to George Washington and succeeded him as the second president. He became the first vice president of the United States in the election of 1789 after being the most voted person after George Washington. He didn't like the job of Vice President at all and called it "The worst job man can give." During his presidency, there was an undeclared naval war between the United States and France called the XYZ Affair. He sent diplomats to bargain and were met by three French agents called X, Y, and Z (hence the name XYZ Affair). They asked for $250,000 as a bribe for the French Prime Minister. This was a serious blow to the Adams presidency and may have led to his not being reelected in 1800. He is remembered for being George Washington's Vice President while his presidency is overlooked.
