By: Amy Alber
John Tyler was the tenth president of the United States. He was born on March 29, 1790 and died on January 18, 1862. He was buried at the Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia. He never had a vice president. John Tyler graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1807 at the age of seventeen, studied law, and went to work for a prestigious law firm in Richmond.
On the day of his inaugural, Harrison gave a rambling two-hour speech outdoors in freezing weather without a coat or hat. A month later he died. John Tyler, he had returned to his Virginia plantation after the inaugural, was rushed to Washington to fill the the vacant presidency.
After John vetoed a bill to resurrect the Bank of the United States, his entire cabinet resigned in protest, with the exception of Secretary of State Webster.
John Tyler is known as the "Accidental President."
