Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson followed President John Adams as the 3rd president of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson participated in the office of president serving two terms from 1801-1809. Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 in Albemarle County, Virginia. Jefferson participated in the Continental congress and the Virginia House of Burgesses. He is most noted for writing the draft of the Declaration of Independence. In 1786 he wrote a bill allowing religious freedom in the United States. During his presidency term he cut America's taxes by one third. In 1803 Jefferson made a bold move of acquiring the Louisiana Territory without the consent of the Constitution. Jefferson helped with the designs of the University of Virginia which opened on 1825. Although sadly Jefferson did not get to see much of the University when he died on July 4, 1826.
