John Adams
By: Carly Rivera
John Adams was the second President of the United States. He served under George Washington as his Vice President and became President in 1797. While Adams was President, he faced problems at home and in Europe. The biggest problem he faced was dealing with France during the French Revolution. His party, the Federalist Party, was split. Half of the party wanted to go to war with France and the other half supported the French people. President Adams fought to stay neutral and keep the peace which caused him to lose his second term as president. He felt that avoiding war with France was his most important achievement during his administration. Also, during his administration, the government moved from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. and he became the first President to live in the White House. In his presidency, the U.S. began industrialization. Also, Congress established the Department of the Navy and the Marine Corpse. The Mississippi Territory and the Indiana Territory were added to the union during this time. Adams is most known for playing a leading role in the Declaration of Independence and avoiding war with France.
