John Tyler was the 10th president. He was born on March 29, 1790.  Tyler was the vice president for William Henry Harrison, but when Harrison died in 1841, one year after he was elected, He was elevated to the office of president and served without a vice president. Before his term in office he served in other branches of the government. From the years 1816-1821 he served in the House of Representatives. In 1823 he served in the Virginia State Legislature. In 1825 he was elected governor of Virginia. In 1862 John Tyler's life ended when he had a stroke.  His presidency was remembered for two things. One was that he was the first Vice President for the Whig Party. The second thing was he was the first Vice President to be elevated to the office of President after the President died. John Tyler was a great President and his presidency will long be remembered.
