George Washington

George Washington became the first president of the United States in 1789. He was Born in Westmoreland Country, Virginia in 1732. Before he became president, he was commander in chief of the Virginia militia in 1755 and the Continental Army in May of 1755. He also fought as a lieutenant in the French and Indian war in 1754. He is best known for his success in forcing Cornwallis to surrender at Yorktown in 1787. He died in December 14, 1799 of a throat infection.
