President Dwight D. Eisenhower

By: Meghan De Coursey

President Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States of America between 1953 and 1961.  He was the supreme commander of the troops invading France on D-day (1944) during World War II.  He commanded over the leading Allied armies, navies, and air forces during this crusade and became a five-star general.  In 1945, he became the Army Chief of staff and after the war he became the President of Columbia University.  In 1951, he had supreme command over the new NATO forces that were being assembled.  He was elected president in 1953 and helped make established programs like Social Security better.  In 1956, he started the Interstate Highway System and it became the largest public works program in the history of the United States.  President Eisenhower did many great things and also had some faults like most people do as President of the United States.
