James K. Polk

    James K Polk was an importance to American History. As the 11 American President, made many contributions to the country. One of the most important contributions was the urging the government to annex Texas into the union of states. He was a strong supporter of annexing Texas during his presidential campaign.  It was finally annexed into the union of states on 29 December 1845. Polk signed a treaty with Brittan for the boundary between Oregon an Canada. He also wanted the United States to own California and New Mexico and offered more than $20,000,000 for the Mexican land. The United States ended up in war with Mexico, and after a couple of years California and New Mexico were granted to the US. James K. Polk is remembered for his large contributions of land to the United States and also left a bitter quarrel between the North and South over slavery.
