Martin van Buren

President Martin van Buren, nicknamed red fox, was born in Kinderhook, New York on the fifth of December 1782. Ever since he was younger, Martin liked to work in the government. His occupations before he became president were lawyer, governor of New York, ambassador for Great Britain, secretary of state, U.S. senator, and Vice president to Andrew Jackson. In 1837 he ran for presidency and won, therefore he became president from 1837-1841. His major accomplishments were keeping the nation out of war, reducing party's tensions, and established the basis for a policy which brought greater economical stability.
