Ulysses S. Grant
By: Luke Bramlage
Ulysses S. Grant was our eighteenth president. He was more famous for his actions before his presidency than during. He went to the Army Academy, so he had to serve in the army. He kept climbing the ranks of the army until he decided he would need to quit to sustain a family. When the civil war came the president called upon Ulysses to help command a volunteer regiment for the war. He accepted and came up with the idea to control the whole Mississippi river. During the civil war, Ulysses kept getting promoted to a higher and higher position. He was successful in his drive to capture the Mississippi river and eventually Ulysses led to the union winning to the war versus the south. After the civil war he ran for president. Since he was so renown from his battles of the civil war he won and put a lot of people who he was in war with in his cabinet. During his presidency he did many things. There were several controversies, but none he couldn't handle. So overall his presidency didn't have any major things that changed the USA, but his times at war are known by many people in the USA for helping join the north and south into one united nation again.
