Harry S. Truman
President Harry S. Truman, a strong and intelligent leader, helped the United States survive a period of hardship. During World War II, Truman ordered atomic bombs to be dropped on Japanese cities devoted to war work. Truman was faced with a difficult decision but his courage to do this ended the war with the unflagging Japanese. On July 26, 1945 Truman issued the Potsdam Declaration, which called for Japan’s surrender and peace terms. Harry S. Truman helped our country to continue living in peace with other nations by issuing peace treaties. After Roosevelt’s sudden death, Truman was elected president and was faced with the problems of postwar adjustment. Truman took on these problems without complaint and helped the U. S. recover from the war. Harry S. Truman was faced with many war problems during his terms in office and in the end he pulled the United States through with his great leadership skills.
