James Madison

Essay
James Madison
James Madison was a decisive president during the war of 1812. For example, “He promptly asked Congress to place an embargo against Britain and implied that if American grievances were not satisfied during the embargo period, stronger measures would be employed.” This shows that James Madison was capable of making firm decisions in acting against Britain. This also shows that President James Madison was not afraid of making the decision to declare war. In addition, “On June 18 Madison signed a declaration of war passed by both houses of Congress.” This shows that all though some critics called the war of 1812 “Mr. Madison’s War” other really saw it as the “second war of independence”. This also shows that others saw it as an opportunity for Americans to defend their freedom and honor in the face of European disrespect. James Madison was a firm in his decisions during the War of 1812.
