Cell Vocabulary List

Cell Wall - outer  boundary of plant cells that is made from cellulose.

Chloroplasts - cell organelle containing chlorophyll that is involved in the process photosynthesis.

Cell Membrane - thin, flexible envelope that surrounds the cell and allows passage materials into and out of the cell.

Vacuole - large, round sac in the cytoplasm of a cell that stores water, food, enzymes, and other materials.

Mitochondrion - power houses of the cell in which cellular respiration occurs.

Lysosome - small, round structure in a cell involved in the digestive activities of the cell.

Nucleolus - largest organelle in the nucleus; contains DNA, RNA, and proteins.

Nucleus - cell structure that directs all the activities of the cell.

Endoplasmic Reticulum - tubular passageways in the cell which substances such as proteins are transported.

Ribosome - protein-making site of the cell.

Cytoplasm - region between the cell membrane and nucleus.

Golgi Body - sac that receives materials from the endoplasmic reticulum; manufactures and prepares molecules for export from the cell.

Compare and Contrast

The plant cell and animal cell have similarities and differences.

They have different parts. In a plant cell there is a chloroplast. The  chloroplasts collect the sunlight for energy and produces the food. Only the plant cell does this because plants are autotrophs. An autotroph is something that produces its own food for energy.  The plant cell also has a cell wall. The animal cell doesn't. The cell wall is strong and stiff and it is the outside of the cell membrane.

The plant cell and animal cell are similar.  Most of the cells have the same functions.  For example, some of the parts are the ribosomes, chromosomes and cytoplasm.  They all have different jobs but they all help the cell live.

The plant and animal cell are different and same. But they both help living things function.
