Latitude
by CAM

Latitude, which is also known as parallels, are imaginary lines that run east to west. They start at 0 degrees from the equator and run to 90 degrees at the north and south poles. The latitude measurements are spaced equally, but the flattening on the map causes the degrees to vary from about 68 miles at the equator to 70 miles at the poles. With longitude and latitude put together, you can find the coordinates for any certain place.
