The Christmas Stocking
by Madeline W. 4A

stocking.gif (7413 bytes)

·        Christmas Stocking started when a man’s wife died, he lost all his money.

·        He was upset because his three daughters couldn’t marry.

·        One  night after they washed their clothes and hung them over the fireplace they went to bed.

·        Saint Nicolas brought three bags of gold.

·        Every one was happy the daughters could marry.

  • That is how the Stockings began.

My family hangs up our stockings because it reminds us of the  gift of Saint Nicolas. We hang them up on our reindeer on top of the mantelpiece.

Rudolph
by Alex M. 4B

Rudolph.gif (9567 bytes)

v   Robert May told his daughter about a reindeer that was different from all the others to show that she wasn’t the only one that was different

v   He worked on Rudolph as a poem for a long time

v  In 1983, he read his poem at a holiday party at Montgomery Wards.

v  In 1947, 6 million copies of the booklet had been sold

On Christmas Eve I sprinkle some magic reindeer food in front of my house so the reindeer have something to eat on their long journey.

I think the reindeer deserve a treat for pulling Santa’s sleigh, especially Rudolph.

The Poinsettia
by Morgan B. 4B

spointsttia.jpg (7437 bytes)

Ø      It was a custom in Mexico to bring to a gift to baby Jesus on Christmas Eve

Ø      A little boy didn’t have a gift for the infant king so he prayed to God

Ø      In God’s mercy he looked down at the boy and answered his prayer

Ø      It caused a flower to bloom and was formed like a star with red leafs

Ø       And the boy’s gift came to be known as “Flower of the Holy Night “.

My family uses it to decorate the house.   Why we use it is to remember it was a gift to baby Jesus on Christmas Eve.

The Candy Cane
by Amy A. 4C

cc.gif (12854 bytes)

  • The Candy Cane is very important because if you turn it up-side down then it would look like a J for Jesus.

  • The red and white strips stand for a special reason like the white stripe stands for the Virgin birth and sinless nature of Christ.

  • The three red small stripes stand for the scourging Jesus suffered on his way to the cross.

We give Candy Canes to the sick people in the hospital for a little Christmas present and with the left over one’s we put them on our Christmas tree to decorate it.
