Normal Fault

Erik B.

A fault is a crack in the Earth.  The most common cause of a fault is stress on the Earth's crust.  Another way might be water.  The length of a fault can range between a millimeter to 1,000 kilometers.  The Great Rift Valley is an example of a fault.
