Sand Bars

Bridget O.

Sand bars, also called offshore bars, are formed by waves crashing into the sand and digging a trough. Some sand is carried onto the beach, while the rest is added to the bar. Backwash and rip currents add to the bar. The bar is located under the water, very close to the shore. Sometimes the bar can even rise up above the surface of the water!! There is a sand bar at Lake Havasu.
