Mesosphere
Ryann S.
The Mesosphere is the coldest layer of the Earth's atmosphere. The temperature in the mesosphere drops to about -100 degrees Celsius. If water vapor is present, thin clouds of ice form in the mesosphere. It is 50 kilometers to about 80 kilometers from the Earth's surface.
The mesosphere helps protect the Earth from large rocklike objects in space known as meteoroids. When meteoroids enter the atmosphere, they burn up in the mesosphere. The heat caused by the friction, or rubbing, between the meteoroid and the atmosphere causes this burning.

Without our atmosphere, there would be no life on Earth. A relatively thin envelope, the atmosphere, consists of layers of gases that support life and provide protection from harmful radiation.
