Mechanical weathering

by: Jane T.

Process of physical disintegration and chemical decomposition of solid rock materials at or near the earths surface.  Mechanical weathering is breaking big rocks into little ones.  This ussually happens around the surface of the planet.  temperature effects the land too.  the cool nights and hot days always cause things to expand and contract.  roots and plants also push into the rocks apart.  mechanical weathering is called FREEZE- THAW.  Mechanical weathering is also called SALT- WEDGING.
