Convection Current

Kaelie S.

A convection current  is a movement of air that happens when the cold air sinks and the warm air rises. Convection currents are important because it effects the weather in the Earth and the Troposphere.

The convection currents are used in the Troposphere when, the temperature drops about 65°C for every kilometer above the Earth's surface, but once it reaches an altitude of about 12 kilometers above the Earth's surface it stops dropping.

The currents are also used in convectional ovens. These ovens are different than regular ovens because there is a fan in the oven that moves the hot air over the food so it cooks more evenly.
