My poem, Fun Facts, and References
- The Marias Cottontail is in the kingdom of Animilia. It is in this kingdom because
it is a multicellular heterotroph. It also has special organ tissue that puts it in
this kingdom.
- It is in the phylum Cordata. It is in this phylum because it has a backbone, a
tail, and bilateral symmetry.
- It is in the class Mammalia. It is in this class because it has three middle
ear bones, hair ( fur ), and it produces milk with a mammary gland.
- It is in the order Lagomorpha. It is in this order because it is a medium sized
animal and it resembles a large rodent. It has a short tail.
- It is in the family of Leporidae. It is in this family because it is medium sized
and has soft thick fur. It ranges in color from white to dark brown.
- It is in the genius and species of Sylvilagus/Sylvilagous Grayson. It is in this
genius and species because it is medium in size and found in many parts of the
world. It is also a type of rabbit.

Faster and faster the cottontail runs.
Nearer and nearer our comparison comes.
It bangs its feet to send a
message.
I bang mine to announce my
passage.
It jumps everywhere.
I jump, nobody knows where.
