Kingdom : Animalia

Characteristics that place it here:

All animals are members of the kingdom Animalia.  The leopard is a multicellular heterotroph that reproduces sexually.  Its body is made up of cells organized into tissues, which are organized into organs.

Phylum : Chordata

Characteristics that place it here:

The leopard possesses a notochord and has a nerve cord.  It also has a complete digestive system, ventral heart, and a bony and cartilaginous endoskeleton.  All things in the phylum Chordata are vertebrates. 

Class : Mammalia

Characteristics that place it here:

The leopard has three middle ear bones, hair or fur, a full skeleton, and a lower jaw made of a single bone.  It can also produce milk by modified sweet glands called mammary glands.

Order : Carnivora

Characteristics that place it here:

The leopard eats meat with its teeth, has acute senses, has a simple stomach, and the leopard is a good long-distance runner.

Family : Felidae (subfamily - Pantherinae)

Characteristics that place it here:

The leopard has retractible claws, a short rostrum, and molars to shear prey, not to crush or grind.

The leopard kills wild animals for food and will also attack livestock and people.
