RA

Ra was the most important god of the ancient Egyptians.  Ra was the sun god of the Heliopolis, and he was the principal god for centuries. His other name was Re. The ancient Egyptians believed that Ra was swallowed every night by the sky goddesses Nut, and was reborn every morning. They also believed that he traveled through the underworld. In the underworld, Ra appeared as a man with a head of a ram. Ra was the patron of the sun, heaven, kingship, power, and light.

Ra is the only god said to be not on the Earth, besides Osiris. Ra is represented as a hawk headed man or as a hawk. His name is thought to have meant "creative power".  He is often pictured wearing the double crown.

Ra was the husband of Hathor, the father of Shu and Tefnut; the grandfather of Nut and Geb; great grandfather of Osiris, Set, Isis, and Nephthys; and great-great grandfather of Horus. The god Ra was a fascinating god.
