Art and Architecture
Art was very important to the Egyptians for temples, funerals, and special occasions. Beautiful objects were originally created not for art's sake, but for practical purposes. The Egyptian art gave details about the people's daily life. Most of the art was created in Nubia for many years. Many monuments came from the palace of King Merenptah. Examples from the Egyptian art were royal portraits, coffins covered with hieroglyphics, gold mummy masks, elegant jars, a papyrus Book of the Dead, mirrors, jewelry, and wine. Ancient Egyptians also made a funeral chapel that honored the nobleman Kaipura. The entire west wall of the Chapel of Kaipura weighed nine tons. Statues that appear to be portraits of the people were made partly as possible homes for the spirit after death.
The Egyptians made a doorjamb that was placed in the palace of Merenptah. A magnificent bronze cat, one of many funeral objects, was cast hollow with an opening large enough to contain a cat mummy. Egyptians also made predynastic pottery with black-topped red jars that were made by hand. So you see, art and architecture was very important to the ancient Egyptians.
