Gifts of the Nile
The first gift of the Nile was papyrus. Papyrus is a long, thin reed, that grew along the river banks. The Egyptians also harvested papyrus.
The second gift of the Nile was mud. Mud was left behind after the flooding. Mud enriched the soil and made the farmland extremely productive.
The third gift of the Nile was water. They built irrigation channels to carry the water into the fields. It also flooded. The floods came at predictable times in Egypt. They built dams to hold back the water for use during droughts.
The Egyptians used the gifts of the Nile wisely. They managed to build a remarkable civilization.
