Papyrus

Papyrus is a thin cut strip that comes from the stalk of Cyprus Papyrus plant.  It was one of the first writing materials used in 4000 BC and became one of Egypt's major products.  Papyrus is harvested along the Nile River.  The Egyptians made baskets , boats, sandals, and a lightweight writing material from papyrus.  The papyrus plant was used by Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and  Romans. The papyrus plant grows to about 1 to 3 meters long. The word paper comes from papyrus.
