Method of Preserving the Dead

Mummifying is the process where a body is put into a condition in which it can not decompose. When Ancient Egyptians mummified someone they followed the following steps.

1. The brain was extracted through the nose.

2. They would then take out all the organs except the heart and put them into four jars. The jars resembled four of their gods. Hapy resembled a baboon and was used for the lungs. Imesty resembled a human and held the liver. Qebensenuef resembled a falcon and held the intestines. Dumaf resembled a jackal and held the stomach.

3. After all the organs were taken out of the body it was covered with wonderful fragrances.

4. After it was completed, they would also put the subject's favorite possessions in their tomb so they could enjoy the afterlife. The coffin would resemble them also.
